Born in Cottonwood, Arizona, Chad is an adopted Smith, born a Campbell. Growing up in Arizona with a love of service to others, he has always been in a uniform. MSG (Master Sergeant) Chad Smith, an Eagle Scout, is now a Police Sergeant of 5 years immediately following 24 years with the US Army. His continued service to others includes 10 years as a volunteer fire fighter and 13 years as a BSA volunteer leader. Chad is currently a Knight with the Knights of Columbus and the Sovereign Military Order of the Temple of Jerusalem where he holds a position as Assistant Secretary/ Registrar and Herald for his Priory. His military decorations include the Bronze Star Medal, Defense Meritorious Service Medal, Meritorious Service Medal, Joint Commendation Medal, Army Commendation Medal, Army Achievement Medal, the Combat Action Badge and the Master Parachutist Badge. Following his military retirement as a Paratrooper in the Special Operations community with 5 combat tours in three armed conflicts, and now a Disabled Veteran, Chad’s work includes patrol supervisor duties and an Assistant Team Leader with a SWAT team. He is responsible for starting two tactical teams in the area and a Community Watch program in his home town.
Chad, an Armiger, is active in his heritage and the Clan Campbell Society (North America). In 2011 he took the North Carolina Commissioner’s post after it was vacant for several years and has reintroduced the Clan to five games in his state. He assumed a leadership role in the Society’s 2014 Charlotte AGM and has coordinated the Clan Campbell Society's return to the Loch Norman Games at Rural Hill in April 2014 as the “Distinguished Clan” with all the associated honors. In an ongoing zeal for his heritage, Chad is a long time member of the Scottish American Military Society (S.A.M.S.) and is very active with the posts Color Guard. (As both societies frequent many of the same games, he can be seen regularly in both tents.) He and his wife Susan belong to the Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Pinehurst, NC, where Smith is a 3rd Degree Knight with his Knights of Columbus council there. Chad and Susan, married 23 years are proud of their two children. Emily is seeking a career in ballet following a B.S. in Dance from Appalachian State University. Ryan, an Eagle Scout is a brand new Infantryman in the US Army assigned to the famous 82d Airborne Division.
