Description & Criteria
Beginning in 1978, the Clansman of the Year award is the oldest award given by the Clan Campbell Society (North America). The Clansman of the Year award is universally acknowledged in the Scottish Community as the most prestigious award given by a Clan Society. The Clansman of the Year Award recognizes a Clan Campbell Society (North America) member who has gone "above and beyond" in the work they do to support our Society and to keep it operating efficiently. This award is not necessarily presented every year, but as warranted, by the achievements of an individual. The individual under consideration must be a member in good standing of the Clan Campbell Society (North America) as defined by the Society's Bylaws. To qualify for the award, the Society member must have accomplished all of the following objectives:
1. Served the Clan Campbell Society (North America) for at least five (5) years.
2. Exceeded the objectives of his/her Clan Campbell Society (North America) appointment or position. For example, the member "wears several hats", volunteers for and completes special projects that are in addition to his/her regular duties, serves on and/or chairs one of the Society committees.
3. Promoted the Clan Campbell Society (North America), and/or the Clan Campbell, by recruiting new members and/or promoting member satisfaction and participation.
4. Represents the Clan Campbell Society (North America) and the Clan Campbell in the Scottish Community in an outstanding manner.
Receipt of this award does not disqualify an individual from any other current or future awards or recognitions from the Clan Campbell or the Clan Campbell Society (North America).
Nominations for the Clansman of the Year award shall be submitted, in writing, no less than 60 days prior to the scheduled AGM (Annual General Meeting), to the President of the Society and are voted on by the Executive Council of the Clan Campbell Society (North America).
The Clansman of the Year award shall be presented by the Society President, on behalf of the Executive Council, the Society, and our kinsmen, at the Annual General Meeting of the Clan Campbell Society (North America).
The award shall be a large engraved Scottish Quaich, and engraved plaque or a framed certificate, and an engraved wearable insignia of the Clansman of the Year award, all commensurate with the nature of the award. The President shall ensure that the awards are properly prepared and available in time for the presentation at the Annual General Meeting of the Clan Campbell Society (North America).
